Stewart’s Return To Chevy

Back when JGR switched from Chevy to Toyota I started a tongue in cheek, just fun blog thread called “Bring Tony Stewart back to Chevrolet”. The list of reasons for him to return to Chevy never got past three entries, and while it is possible that someone named Tony might have read them, it certainly wasn’t the man himself.

As all of his fans know by now, the last two days have brought the news that Tony will end his long run with JGR at the end of the season in favor of cranking up his own team for the 2009 season. What will he be driving? Let me hear it loud and clear – a Chevrolet!!

Some other high profile drivers have started their own teams with disappointing results, so we will have to wait and see how Tony makes out, but we wish him the best of luck. For now, it looks like Crew Chief “Zippy” will stay with JGR to help groom Stewarts replacement, but no one should be surprised if that situation changes in the future. Just like the Eury’s followed Earnhardt from DEI to his new organization, I predict that Zippy will end up with Tony on the new team.

Speculation is rampant that Ryan Newman may drive the second car on Tony’s new team. That’s great – then Tony and Ryan can proceed to beat up on the Busch babies with great aplomb. (I don’t know what means either – look it up)
