ALMS GT-1 Class News

Following up an old posting on this subject, Corvette racing program manager Doug Fehan is quoted in a recent issue of AutoWeek as saying that “Chevrolet could justify competing against itself in the ALMS for only one season”. Ray Charles could have seen that one coming!

The article further quotes Fehan as saying “building a GT2 version of the car is one option open for next season”, but further states that they are not “leaning toward” GT2.

Aston Martin states that their comeback to the series is possible, but not planned. Who should race in this series in addition to Corvette? I suspect that Aston Martin, Jaguar, Ferrari, Dodge (Viper), and Maserati have production cars that could be race prepared with relative ease, and certainly Porsche, Audi, some of the limited production makes such as Panoz, could gin up a competitive car if they were so inclined.

It’s hard to say if racing economics, the street car sales market, “performance balancing”, or what it is that has brought this situation about, but it is sad to see.

What are the causes, and what is the solution? What is likely to happen should Corvette field a team of GT2 cars? Everyone has an opinion, so don’t be shy.
