Katherine Legge Opts Out.

As the Indy Car Series continues to shake itself out, it looks like Katherine Legge is one of the casualties. RACER Magazine reports that the 22 year old Brit has signed to drive an Audi in a German based touring car series.

Maybe that’s not a huge loss, but it does take the edge off one of the interesting aspects of the developing 2008 series, which is how will the ladies make out. My take is that Danica and Sarah can and will hold their own, Milka has yet to show the potential she would need to be among the front runners, and Katherine Legge was the big unknown.

It is fair to say that she had earned a good deal of respect in Champ Car, and it would have been nice to see her in a Dallara-Honda, head to head with Patrick and Fisher. That’s one small but nonetheless interesting aspect of the unification that we will not get to see played out. I hope she comes back to the series in the near future.

Why? Well, because I think girl race car drivers rock!! OK – maybe some of Danica’s promos are a bit heavy on the female side and light on race car driver, but I guess you work with what you got!! One thing they have is the skill and talent to compete at the top levels of the sport, and they deserve their shot at the manly man racers.
