A Talladega Feel Good!

Congratulations to Morgan Sheperd who finished 13th at Talladega. It was the first time the 66 year old Sheperd finished on the lead lap since 1999. He had failed to qualify in Mexico City, but he stayed out of trouble all day at Talladega and nearly grabbed at top 10 finish.

It’s not clear to me exactly why, but Sheperd, without a major sponsor, is getting a free car from Kevin Harvick, Inc. as a gift from Harvic. What a deal!

Tony Stewart said that Morgan’s finish is “bigger than me winning the race and this is a huge win for me.” He also said that “Morgan puts his heart and soul into this series.”

Sheperd has four Cup wins out of 513 starts, and 15 career wins in the re-named Nationwide Series. No matter where he finishes, it is clear that Morgan Sheperd has built up a ton of respect and good will throughout NASCAR. May he continue to uphold the honor of older guys in what has become increasingly a young mans game
